Going Home Program

The Going Home program is a comprehensive training course designed to address the wide range of challenges faced during reentry after incarceration. This program empowers participants to take control of their destinies, fostering a mindset where life is not dictated by circumstances but by active choices. This intensive training requires total commitment, emphasizing the importance of willingness: to listen, to be honest with oneself, to express feelings, to respect differences, and to practice what is learned.

Reentry is the process of ending a period of incarceration and returning to society. Unlike reintegration or recidivism, reentry is not a measure of success or failure but a unique journey for each individual. The Going Home program consists of 15 sessions, each focusing on a different topic crucial for successful reentry. Participants will develop skills through facilitated training and integrate their learning through discussions and practical exercises.

Topics covered include communication and listening skills, establishing a personal sanctuary, self-awareness, emotional literacy, recognizing relapse warning signs, anger management, understanding victimization and domestic violence, exploring family dynamics, spirituality, relationships, forgiveness, and creating a safe post-release plan. Developed by Louis Wright, a seasoned correctional counselor with 19 years of experience at San Quentin, this program provides a structured and supportive environment for those committed to their personal transformation and successful reentry into society. Join us in the Going Home program and take the first step towards a new beginning.
